Single Review: Savarre “Scars”

Fronted by multi-talented singer-songwriter, composer, playwright, and novelist Shannon Denise Evans, New York’s Savarre are experts at blending alternative rock with more creative, forward-thinking and avant-garde musical urges.
Musically, the track drifts along in cinematic fashion, slow, sure and sensual but employs enough solid structures and perfectly-placed beats to ensure that it remains tethered enough to a groove, gentle though it is, to turn it from the fragile to the infectious.
And lyrically too, it is an interesting prospect, dwelling on the thoughts of scars, perhaps physical, perhaps mental, being worn like badges of honour, marking the dark times and a reflection that it is often through pain that we grow.
“For me,” Shannon offers, “the experiences that created my scars made me stronger, smarter, and more resilient. I wear my scars proudly now; they are markers on a path that led me back to myself.”
It’s a glorious song, understated yet deep, exploring the dark heart of a life truly lived, truly appreciated, truly experienced and the idea of evolution and forward momentum because of, rather than in spite of, the things that try to hold us back or drag us down. And in its own shaded, beguiling way, it is one of the most honest and optimistic songs you will hear in a long time, provided you know how to listen to what it is saying.
